The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) launched this past weekend the “Culture at Your Doorstep” series across six local neighbourhoods over three consecutive weekends.
Earmarked to welcome the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, the month-long event centres on traditional Chinese culture infused with festive elements, providing residents with a diverse cultural experience rich in traditional charm and interactive fun, an IC statement said on Saturday.
The statement noted that the event features intangible cultural heritage workshops, cultural experiences, and traditional game booths. The heritage workshops include bamboo-woven wind chimes, Song brocade pearl paintings*, mother-of-pearl inlaid vases, Peking Opera rattle-drums, Mid-Autumn rubbings on round fans, and floral paper lanterns.
The statement pointed out that the series’s cultural experiences comprise shadow play, ribbon dancing, Chinese fan arts, and ethnic folk-dance handkerchief-spinning. Traditional games feature pitch-pot and beanbag tossing, two historically rich traditional games where participants completing both tasks receive a delicate, traditionally styled souvenir. Additionally, traditional costumed figures will interact closely with residents on-site to enhance the holiday atmosphere.
The “Culture at Your Doorstep” events will run from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. this Saturday at the Lok Kuan Building Block 3 in Seac Pai Van; this Sunday at Largo do Pagode do Bazar (康公廟前地); on September 26 (the day after the Mid-Autumn Festival) in Areia Preta Park; and on September 27 next to the park in front of the Flower City estate in Taipa.
