Firefighters and police officers were dispatched to a construction site in Coloane yesterday morning following the discovery of a giant snake in a mud pit, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) confirmed.
A video circulating on social media showed several firefighters equipped with specialised snake-catching tongs to restrain the serpent. They worked together to pull the resisting reptile from a soil pit alongside a stationary excavator, while police officers secured the perimeter.
According to the Fire Services Bureau, emergency services were alerted to the presence of the snake at a construction site opposite the power station on Rua da Central Térmica de Coloane (路環電廠街) at nearly 11:00 a.m. yesterday.
Firefighters captured the snake using specialist equipment and subsequently notified the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) to deal with the snake. No injuries were reported during the operation.
Although the Fire Services Bureau told the Post it did not know the species of snake, Macao Daily News reported on its website that the reptile was a python, without citing its source.
