The Global Legal & Sustainable Timber Forum (GLSTF 2026) concluded yesterday at the Galaxy International Convention Centre in Cotai, advancing industry agreements anchored by the “Action Framework 2026 for Promoting Legal and Sustainable Timber Supply Chains” and the rollout of new price indices on the Global Timber Index (GTI) platform.
The two-day forum, themed “Innovation and Transformation – Pursuing Avenues for Resilient and Sustainable Global Timber Industries,” drew more than 800 participants from 49 countries, including leading entrepreneurs, policymakers, and experts from the global timber and wood products community.
Commerce and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) Director Elaine Wong Yee Lam noted in a speech yesterday that during the forum, several major initiatives and achievements were unveiled to chart a sustainable course for the industry. These included the release of the “Action Framework 2026 for Promoting Legal and Sustainable Timber Supply Chains”; the upgrading of the Global Timber Index (GTI) platform to include a new price index; the official application and operation of the Blockchain-based Timber Traceability System-Trading Platform (BTTS-TP) in Macau; and the establishment of the Global Timber Association Network (GTAN).
Meanwhile, the inauguration of the “International Supply Chain Green Transformation Cooperation Innovation Centre” also created new conditions to foster green supply chain cooperation between the Chinese mainland, Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries, Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) partner nations, and ASEAN members, Wong said.
The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) consists of 11 member states: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR (Laos), Malaysia, Myanmar (Burma), the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste (East Timor), and Vietnam.
Wong added that these achievements provide innovative directions for the sustainable development of global timber supply chains, assist the industry’s upgrade and transformation, and further reinforce Macau’s role as an international platform for industry announcements, professional exchanges, and cooperative transformation.
Wong pointed out that the forum hosted its inaugural “Macao International Sustainable Development Financial and Investment Project Matching Meeting”. Focusing on green transformation and digital innovation, the session connected forestry, timber processing, biomass energy, and digital technology enterprises with financial institutions and industrial investors to explore cross-border financing and market opportunities.
Wong added that several local organisations initiated the compilation of the “Standard for Biomass Aviation Fuel” and the construction of the “Macao Green Standard Management System.”
