REM, a new luxury hotel at integrated resort City of Dreams Macau (COD) in Cotai, was officially inaugurated yesterday with a star-studded ceremony, celebrity appearances, and live performances, introducing a hospitality experience centred on privacy and “sensory immersion”.
REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement, the sleep stage in which the brain is most active, when dreams feel startlingly real and vivid.
Yesterday’s grand opening was attended by Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman and Chief Executive Lawrence Ho Yau Lung, President and Board Director Evan Winkler, City of Dreams Macau President Timothy Kelly, global brand ambassador Jing Boran, and “brand friend” Tan Yuan Yuan.
The event featured a red-carpet livestream attended by celebrities including Anson Lo Hon-ting, Bao Bao Wan, Clara Lee Sung-min, Mika Hashizume, Mile Phakphum, Miriam Yeung Chin-wah, Suzi de Givenchy, Wenjing Cai, and Zhu Zhu.
Mandopop singer Miriam Yeung opened the ceremony with a performance before Ho delivered a speech outlining the vision behind the new hotel. “At Melco, we have never relied on replicating the past to win the future,” Ho said, citing the company’s previous developments, including City of Dreams, House of Dancing Water, and Morpheus.
Ho said that REM was designed to meet changing expectations among luxury travellers, who increasingly seek privacy, control over their own pace, and immersive experiences. He described the hotel as part of Melco’s efforts to diversify Macau’s tourism offerings and encourage continued innovation in the city’s integrated resort industry.
During the ceremony, Ho, Winkler, Kelly, Jing, and Tan joined the official unveiling of REM. Celebrity guests subsequently assembled a puzzle revealing The Lair, the hotel’s penthouse suite, marking another highlight of the evening.
The celebration continued with a pool party featuring performances by beatboxer SKY WINCHESTER, professional BMX freestyle athletes Daniel Dhers and Irek Rizaev, and Grammy Award-winning DJ Afrojack, the statement said.
REM joins Morpheus and NÜWA as part of City of Dreams Macau’s luxury hotel portfolio, adding a new design concept focused on avant-garde aesthetics, privacy, and immersive experiences, the statement said, adding that the opening reflects its continued investment in Macau’s development as a World Centre of Tourism and Leisure.
REM consists of 149 rooms and suites.
