Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) and Sports Bureau (ID) President Deland Leong Wai Man announced in a press conference at the Macao Cultural Centre in Nape yesterday that Macau will have a packed schedule of cultural and sporting events next month, including the 73rd Macau Grand Prix, an international forum on exchanges between civilisations and commemorative activities marking the 160th anniversary of Dr Sun Yat-sen’s (1866-1925) birth.
Leong heads both bureaux.
Leong said that the programme would showcase Macau’s cultural diversity while strengthening the integration of culture, sport and tourism.
The “2026 International Forum on Mutual Learning Among Civilisations” will return on November 9 and 10, bringing together scholars for discussions on cultural exchange and cooperation. Leong said that the annual event reflects Macau’s role as a platform for exchanges between Chinese and Western civilisations.
The 73rd Macau Grand Prix, slated for November 19 to 22, will be accompanied by the inaugural Macao City Culture Festival from November 14 to 22.The festival aims to extend the benefits of the motorsport event beyond racing by combining cultural experiences with the city’s sporting attractions.
November will also see a series of activities commemorating the 160th anniversary of Dr Sun’s birth. Leong said the programme would pay tribute to the nation’s historic figure while exploring the significance of his legacy and his longstanding connections with Macau, particularly for younger generations.
Dr Sun is recognised by the Communist Party of China (CPC) as the the great forerunner of China’s democratic revolution. He is the founder of the Kuomintang (KMT – National People’s Party) and the Republic of China (ROC).
Another highlight will be the upgraded “hush! Beach Concerts x Urban Sports Wellfest 2026”, slated for November 14 and 15 at Hac Sa beach in Coloane. Themed “Energy Island”, the event will combine live music, physical challenges and community activities to offer young people new ways to engage with culture and sport.
The 38th Macao International Music Festival (MIMF) will reach its finale towards the end of next month, with composer and conductor Tan Dun scheduled to conduct two major concerts. Meanwhile, the “8th Encounter in Macao – Arts and Cultural Festival between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries” will continue with programmes highlighting cultural exchange, including a concert featuring Mozambican singer Stewart Sukuma and the Macao Chinese Orchestra (OM).
Leong said that around 30 cultural and sporting activities, comprising nearly 150 sessions, will also take place across Macau’s communities throughout November. She noted that next month’s programme would offer residents and visitors a richer experience of Macau’s blend of Chinese and Western cultures while helping turn the city’s cultural, sporting and tourism resources into new drivers of development.
