The Lands and Urban Construction Bureau (DSSCU) said in a statement yesterday that there is “widespread” public support for the government’s revised urban master plan for 2020–2040.

The statement noted that the public consultation on the government’s draft of its first amendments to the plan has recently been concluded and that, following the compilation, classification, and analysis of the opinions and suggestions collected, the respective “report on the analysis of the opinions presented” has been finalised by the bureau.

The report showed widespread public support for the plan’s revision, the statement noted.

During the public consultation, the statement said, the bureau collected a total of 219 sets of opinions “proactively” submitted by the public, consisting of 4,091 individual opinions and suggestions.

The report’s analysis concluded that civil society as a whole generally supports the government’s revision of the plan, in response to major public construction projects and future development needs, the statement said, adding that it also found “broad agreement” with adjusting the spatial layout and land-use planning to align with the latest development positioning, so as to reserve space for Macau’s long-term development.

In addition, attention by the participants in the public consultation process focused on the planning and deployment of major public construction projects, the allocation of land resources, and the direction of urban spatial development, according to the statement.

Under the provisions of the Urban Planning Law and regulations concerning its implementation, the bureau underlined in the statement that it has submitted the plan’s draft amendments, its analysis of the outcome of the public consultation process, and related documents to the Urban Planning Committee, so that the latter can give its views on the draft.

Subsequently, the relevant opinions will be comprehensively taken into account as work on the draft amendments to the plan can be accelerated, the statement said.
