The Macau government will expand the trial implementation of its “Community Consumption Rewards” scheme from November 1 to December 31, aiming to channel more residents and visitors into local neighbourhoods and boost community spending, according to a joint statement issued by five public entities on Wednesday.

The scheme is jointly implemented by the Economic and Technological Development Bureau (DSEDT), the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the Sports Bureau (ID), and the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM). It will be expanded to cover a wider range of tourism, cultural, and sporting events and other designated activities, encouraging participants to explore local shops and services.

Under the scheme, eligible participants can obtain a one-time redemption code from on-site staff and scan it using designated electronic payment tools to receive a “discount package.” They have the chance to obtain instant-discount coupons worth a total of 50, 100, or 150 patacas. Each person may redeem the package up to twice a week.

Eligible participants include passengers using the “Tourism and Leisure Bus” who alight at designated community stops, people completing the “Discover Macau’s History” cultural tourism routes, visitors to the Macau Grand Prix Museum, and holders of flight or ferry tickets to Macau. The scheme will also cover consumers who meet the spending requirement at the 26th Macao Food Festival, holders of tickets to the 73rd Macau Grand Prix, and candidates taking designated examinations organised by the CPTTM.

The coupons can be used at more than 1,000 designated businesses near community stops served by the city’s “Tourism and Leisure Bus.” Participating businesses cover food and beverage, retail, cultural and creative products, and daily services. Details and the list of participating businesses are available on the scheme’s dedicated webpage (https://www.dsedt.gov.mo/rlc), the statement said.

The first phase was trialled during the National Day “Golden Week” holiday, in conjunction with the “Tourism and Leisure Bus” and the “Discover Macau’s History” cultural tourism routes. The statement said the initial response had been satisfactory.

To promote the expanded scheme, the DSEDT will distribute promotional stickers and table cards to participating businesses and provide detailed information about the scheme. The DICJ will coordinate with Macau’s six integrated resort operators to publicise the initiative through their facilities and channels, while continuing to use the shuttle bus programme to direct visitors towards surrounding neighbourhoods.

MGTO will distribute dedicated activity cards to visitors to the Macau Grand Prix Museum and holders of flight or ferry tickets to Macau between November 1 and December 31. During the 26th Macao Food Festival, running from November 20 to December 6, visitors who spend at least 100 patacas at the festival can obtain an activity card at a designated booth by presenting their original transaction receipts.

Meanwhile, the Sports Bureau will distribute activity cards to ticket holders at the 73rd Macau Grand Prix, which will take place from November 19 to 22, encouraging spectators to visit nearby communities after the races.

From November 7 to December 31, the CPTTM will also distribute cards to candidates taking certification and skills assessment examinations at its International and Professional Examination Centre in the Macau World Trade Centre building. The initiative aims to encourage candidates and their accompanying family members to explore nearby neighbourhoods and spend time at local hotels, restaurants, and shops.

The government hopes the expanded scheme will bring together resources across different sectors, strengthen the appeal of community shopping, and support the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the statement added.
