The award ceremony for the 2026 “All-Macau Secondary School IT Knowledge Quiz Competition” and the “All-Macau Secondary School Mobile Website Technical Skills Competition” was held on Saturday, with the aim of providing a platform for local youth to build experience and advance to international competitions.

The ceremony took place at the Macao Science Centre (MSC) in Zape. Jointly organised by the Macau Productivity and Technology Transfer Centre (CPTTM) and the Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), the two competitions attracted a total of 436 students, with 52 participants winning prizes.

Hoi Chon Wang, a Form 5 (Senior Middle 2) student representing the winning team in the senior-high division of the IT knowledge quiz competition, told reporters on the sidelines of the one-day event that the contest evaluated participants on computer networking, Microsoft Office software, and Python programming*, with a strong focus on digital literacy. He added that winning the award has reaffirmed his decision to pursue higher education in information technology (IT) after graduating next year, helping him map out a clearer career path.

Hoi expressed hope that Macau will host more IT-related knowledge and skills competitions to encourage high school students to explore the field and build a reservoir of local IT talent.

Meanwhile, Chan Hoi Chon, another participant who won the website technical skills competition, noted that the hands-on experience gained from the mobile web design competition consolidated his technical knowledge. Chan said he plans to continue deepening his expertise in IT and AI. Chan also expressed a desire for local schools to introduce more AI courses or interest groups, enabling students to leverage AI tools to support their daily academic learning across various subjects.

CPTTM Information System & Technology Department Senior Manger Terence Liem Tao noted in a speech that the centre aims to use these competitions to build a bridge for local youngsters to step from Macau onto the global stage. By starting with local contests, students can accumulate practical experience, refine their skills, and eventually earn the opportunity to represent Macao, China, in regional and international competitions, he said.
