Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) Administrative Committee member Leong Kun Fong said yesterday that the new home for the city’s ageing celebrity bear Bobo in Coloane’s Seac Pai Van Park was slated to be ready at the end of the year.

Leong made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event to celebrate the first birthday of locally-born giant panda twins Kin Kin and Hong Hong at Seac Pai Van Park.

IACM President Jose Fonseca Tavares told reporters early last month that his bureau was considering moving Bobo, an endangered Asian black bear, from his purpose-built enclosure in Flora Garden. Tavares said the environment in Seac Pai Van Park would be better for Bobo to enjoy his old age.
