Macau Foundation responds to ‘palace deal’ news

The public Macau Foundation (FM) said in a statement yesterday that local businessman Liu Chak Wan, one of its trustees, bought a palatial mansion in Lisbon on behalf of the foundation, but in his own name initially, before selling it to the foundation.

The foundation funded by 1.6 percent of the gross receipts of the local gaming industry issued the statement in response to a report by the Portuguese-language radio channel of government-owned broadcaster TDM on Monday about the matter.

Several local print media including The Macau Post Daily published reports on the property deal yesterday, citing the Radio Macau report.
