A 25-year-old local man was cheated out of 120,108 patacas in a dating scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said in a regular press briefing yesterday.

Ho said the victim, a driver, reported the case on Tuesday. He told the police that he met a woman on WeChat on Tuesday last week who claimed to be a bar girl. She told the victim that she did not want to go to work, and asked him to pay 1,300 patacas for a date with her.

According to Ho, the victim agreed and they arranged to meet at a restaurant in Rua do Campo later that night. When the victim arrived at the restaurant, he received a call from somebody who claimed to be the woman’s “manager”. The “bar girl” never showed up.
