Final review of budget framework bill this week: committee

The government’s budget framework bill will be resubmitted to a plenum of the legislature for its final article-by-article vote, after a final meeting of the Legislative Assembly’s 2nd Standing Committee’s this week to review the draft law, Andrew Chan Chak Mo, who heads the committee, said yesterday.

Chan, an indirectly-elected lawmaker and restaurateur by profession, briefed reporters after a closed-door meeting of the committee. Government officials, including Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac, attended yesterday’s meeting.

The outline of the bill was passed in a plenary session of the legislature in October last year. The bill aims to enhance transparency in the drafting of the government’s annual budgets.
