The robotics team from the Macau Anglican College (MAC) finished 10th out of 39 teams from 17 countries and regions in a port security-themed underwater robot challenge organised by the Marine Advanced Technology Education Centre (MATE) in Long Beach, California.

The MATE International ROV Competition took place from June 23 to 25 where teams, in the form of a company, were required to design and build a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) that was able to carry out specific underwater tasks. The annual competition is aimed at encouraging students to apply their knowledge from science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) to solve real world problems.

Having come second in the regional competition in Hong Kong, the MAC team was the sole representative of Macau to advance to the international competition. This was the second year that MAC’s robotic team has taken part in the challenge.
