Man cheated out of 264,000 yuan in forex scam: police

The Judiciary Police (PJ) have arrested a 27-year-old man from the mainland for cheating a fellow mainlander out of 264,000 yuan (314,000 patacas) and attacking him, a PJ spokesperson said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, the victim told the police that he received a phone call from the suspect at about 2 a.m. on Saturday. The suspect, surnamed Cai, told him that he had HK$300,000 in cash that he was ready to exchange for yuan.

The spokesperson said the victim agreed and met Cai in front of a hotel. Another man was with Cai when they met. The man with Cai let the victim get a glimpse of the large amount of HK dollars that he was carrying.
