The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers have arrested four illegal immigrants (II) and two snakeheads in Coloane.

“Snakehead” is a Cantonese slang term for people smugglers.

According to the statement, the Customs Service received information from the border police in Zhuhai at 4 a.m. on Sunday that a “suspicious” speedboat was travelling towards Cheoc Van Beach in Coloane.

A Customs Service patrol vessel stopped the speedboat and arrested two “snakeheads” onboard. Customs Service officers later caught three men and a woman on the waterfront nearby, according to the statement.

This undated handout photo provided by the Macau Customs Service yesterday shows a customs officer (right) standing in front of the four illegal immigrants and two snakeheads at an unidentified location.
