Babies to get measles jabs: govt

The Health Bureau (SSM) will vaccinate babies aged between 9 and 12 months against measles starting from yesterday as a temporary measure to protect infants against the highly contagious disease, according to a SSM statement yesterday evening.

In another SSM statement earlier yesterday, the bureau announced that an 11-month-old boy was diagnosed with measles on Monday. He was being treated in an isolation ward at the private Kiang Wu Hospital at the time of the statement.

According to the bureau, the boy had been in physical contact with his cousin, an 8-month-old girl who was the first measles case to have been infected locally since 2008.
