The Macau Peninsula Wastewater Treatment Plant resumed operation yesterday afternoon after a two-day suspension for the replacement of a corroded section of pipe in the plant, according to a statement by the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) yesterday.

The plant, which has been in operation since 1995, is on the north-eastern coast of the peninsula. The replacement work was carried out around the clock on Monday and Tuesday, during which sewage produced in the peninsula was pumped straight into the sea along the coast.

Initially, the bureau planned to carry out the replacement work for eight hours a day, for three days, but later decided to shorten it by working 24 hours a day to minimise its impact to the coast.
