The Legislative Assembly Electoral Affairs Committee (CAEAL) yesterday issued a set of new guidelines, requiring that all groups running in the upcoming legislative elections remove all campaign related-information or messages released to the publilc, including those on the Internet, by midnight today.

The direct and indirect legislative elections will take place on September 17 while the campaign period runs from September 2-15 during which candidates can display election campaign information in public. The guidelines say such information or messages have to be removed before September 16, the cooling-off day before polling day.

According to the guidelines, the official representatives and candidates on all the lists are required to remove before midnight today all the information which “directs public attention to one or more candidates”, or “suggests, expressly or implicitly, that voters should vote – or not vote – for a certain candidate or certain candidates”.
