A local man was arrested on Monday for allowing a phone scam gang to use his bank account to transfer phone scam money, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a special press conference yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, the suspect, surnamed Mak, is a 28-year-old local driver.

The spokesperson said that a local woman reported to the Public Security Police (PSP) on Monday that she received a call that morning from a man who claimed to be a Macau Customs Service officer. The victim followed his instructions and transferred the equivalent of about 230,000 patacas to several bank accounts in Macau and the mainland.
