A Canadian Chinese woman has been cheated out of about 4 million patacas in a phone scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson Tam Weng Keong said yesterday.

According to Tam, the 49-year-old overseas Chinese victim, who lives in Canada, went to the PJ headquarters to report to the police on Sunday that she had met a man via a messaging app in Canada in May.

Tam said the suspect told the victim that he was a manager of a casino called “Running Horses” in Macau, adding the suspect claimed that if the victim invested 2 million patacas into the casino, she would get an investment return of 1.25 percent after three months only.
