The Macau Jiangmen Communal Society and Macau Association of Social and Livelihood Enhancement jointly held a press conference at the society’s office yesterday, urging the government to increase the amount given out in its Healthcare Subsidy Scheme and build more recreational facilities for the elderly.

Addressing yesterday’s press conference, Lo Choi In, vice-chairman of the Macau Jiangmen Communal Society, said the government should increase the amount because of the city’s high inflation rate. Lo said the current amount – 600 patacas worth of vouchers – was not enough for elderly.

According to the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC), Macau’s inflation rate stood at 1.06 percent in June.
