Police set up anti-phone scam hotline

The police set up a dedicated hotline yesterday for residents to enquire about phone scams, Chan Kin Hong, who heads the Gaming Related and Economic Crimes Investigation Department of the Judiciary Police, said yesterday.

Chan made the remarks while speaking to reporters at the Barrier Gate border checkpoint where PJ officers as well as officers from the Public Security Police (PSP) and Macau Customs Service were carrying out an operation with the aim of preventing residents and tourists from being cheated by phone scam fraudsters. The officers also put up anti-phone scam posters at the border checkpoint.

The number of the special hotline is 8800 7777.

Officers from the three law enforcement entities also put up anti-phone scam posters at the Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal, Taipa Ferry Terminal at Pac On in Taipa, and the Lotus Flower Bridge border checkpoint in Cotai.
