The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested a man from the mainland on Tuesday for allegedly robbing a female compatriot after they had sex in a disabled toilet in Nape earlier this month, PJ spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday.
Choi identified the suspect as a 37-year-old salesman surnamed Li and the victim as a 31-year-old. Choi said that the woman works in the education sector, adding that she was on a gambling trip to Macau when the robbery occurred.
According to Choi, the victim met Li in a casino-hotel resort in Nape in the early hours of September 13. The suspect told the victim that he was good at gambling and that he could “help her win money” at the gaming tables. Li also told the victim that he would help her only if she had sex with him first, Choi said.
As the victim was eager to hit a winning streak, she agreed to have sex with Li. They had sex in a disabled toilet in the resort’s shopping centre, according to Choi.
Choi said that the casino is located in Avenida Dr. Sun Yat-Sen but did not name the property.
When the victim was getting dressed after having sex, Li put his hand inside her handbag, Choi said. Seeing what Li was doing, the woman shouted and tried to stop him.
According to Choi, Li put his hands around the victim’s neck and told her not to shout. The suspect took HK$5,000 in cash from the victim’s handbag and left the toilet.
The woman told a security guard what had happened and the guard then reported the case to the police, Choi said.
After checking CCTV footage, PJ officers found that the man lives in a flat near the shopping centre. However, Li had left Macau at midday on that day, Choi said.
According to Choi, Li was arrested at the Barrier Gate border checkpoint on Tuesday when he returned to Macau.
During questioning, Li admitted that he had sex with the victim in the toilet. However, the suspect denied that he had robbed her, Choi said, adding the police, however, believe the victim’s statement that Li robbed her.
Choi said that Li used a condom when having sex with the victim after which he flushed it down the toilet.
Li will be transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) for possible arraignment on a robbery charge.
