Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak has confirmed that the government plans to move the current headquarters of the Police Tactical Intervention Unit (UTIP) from near the Barrier Gate border checkpoint to Pac On in Taipa.

Wong made the remarks while speaking to reporters at Macau Tower where he attended an official reception to celebrate National Day.

Wong said that the police were initially told by the government in 2009 to move the tactical unit’s headquarters somewhere else, adding that the relocation did not go ahead as the police at that time could not find a suitable location for the construction of the new headquarters for its tactical unit.

Wong said he had been discussing the matter with Secretary for Transport and Public Works Raimundo do Rosario in regular meetings since he took up office in late 2014.
