Hato floods damage 80 Customs vehicles: Wong

Secretary for Security Wong Sio Chak said yesterday that some 80 vehicles owned by the Macau Customs Service were damaged by floodwaters during Super Typhoon Hato in August, adding that some facilities in various entities under his portfolio were also damaged during the typhoon.

Wong made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a solemn ceremony marking the formal commencement of the Judicial Year 2017/18, at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) in Nape.

Hato that pummelled Macau on August 23 killed 10 people, and injured 244, causing huge damage and resulting in massive flooding.

Wong said that during Hato’s onslaught, the ground floor of the Customs Service headquarters in Barra suffered severe flooding, adding that some 80 vehicles parked there were damaged by the floodwaters.
