Seven men aged between 19 and 28 have been arrested for streaming online baccarat games after a resident told the police that a relative on the mainland had lost 3 million yuan (3.6 million patacas) from gambling on the site.

Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Yeung Sau Chan said in a special press briefing near the crime scene yesterday evening that a resident called 993 at around noon yesterday, saying that a group of people were operating an online gambling business out of a flat in Fai Chi Kei.

According to Yeung, the resident told the police that gamblers were placing their bets through WeChat. The resident, whose gender was not revealed, also said that his or her relative had lost 3 million yuan from gambling through that site.

Yeung said that PJ officers raided the flat in the evening and arrested the seven male suspects there, six of them local residents and one from Hong Kong.
