Addressing yesterday’s Q&A session in the legislature’s hemicycle, Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac said the government has decided to keep the statutory minimum wage at 30 patacas an hour for cleaners and doormen employed by the property management sector.
According to Leong, the government has made the decision as the average wages of these employees rose faster than the accumulated inflation from 2012 to 2016.
Leong made the remarks when answering a question from indirectly-elected lawmaker-cum-unionist Lei Chan U, on the first day of the two-day Q&A session about his portfolio’s policy guidelines for next year.
