Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Alexis Tam Chon Weng said yesterday he had heard about a woman suffering a miscarriage during Super-Typhoon Hato in August, adding that he was “very concerned” about it.

Tam made the remarks in response to a reporter’s question about the matter on the sidelines of the opening of the Helen Liang Diocesan Nursery in Rua do Parque.

According to previous media reports, on August 23 when Hato devastated Macau, a pregnant woman was allegedly asked to leave the government-run Conde de S. Januário Hospital Centre due to a lack of available beds. She eventually suffered a miscarriage.
