Central District Community Service Consultative Council member Un Kam Tim said yesterday the government shouldn’t include non-resident domestic helpers in the proposed implementation of a statutory minimum wage.
Un made the remarks in a speech on behalf of himself and fellow councillors Ho Kuai Seng and Huang Wei during a regular meeting of the council at the Central Districts Residents’ Service Centre in Rotunda de Carlos da Maia.
The Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) launched a 45-day public consultation in November on the proposed implementation of a statutory minimum wage for the city’s employees. The public consultation ended last Wednesday, and received more than 2,400 opinions from civil society.
