Two mainlanders were arrested on suspicion of trying to defraud a local man, a suspected loan shark, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokeswoman Lei Hon Nei said during a regular press conference at the PJ headquarters in Zape yesterday.
Lei said that the two suspected fraudsters are a 26-year-old man surnamed Jing and a 32 year-old man surnamed Ma, both claiming to be businessmen. Lei identified the victim as a 36-year-old local man who later turned out to be a loan shark. His surname was not released.
Lei said that in the small hours of Saturday morning Jing approached the victim in a casino in Nape as the two had met each other there previously. Jing asked the victim to lend him HK$600,000 worth of chips for which Jing gave the victim HK$300,000 in cash as a deposit.
