Priest wants parish for Filipinos

Fr Joao Lourenço, the former rector of the Roman-Catholic Inter-University Institute of Macau (the precursor of the University of St Joseph), has called for the establishment of a parish for Macau’s sizeable Philippine community.

Lourenço made the suggestion in an interview with Radio Macau which was broadcast on Saturday.

The cleric said that the Philippine parish did not necessarily need to be “territorial but rather personal, or a chaplaincy, or a structure that would be ecclesiastical and provide [the Philippine community] identity.”
