The private Macau Anglican College (MAC) in Taipa announced yesterday that it will suspend its classes today and tomorrow, in the wake of the illegal removal of asbestos roof sheeting at a site opposite the school.

The Lands, Public Works and Transport Bureau (DSSOPT) and the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) jointly said in a statement yesterday that the latter received complaints on January 19 about the removal of roof sheeting that might contain asbestos.

According to the statement, after receiving the complaints, the two bureaus discovered that the removal of the asbestos roof sheeting had been carried out without the permission of the authorities. The two bureaus then ordered the suspension of the removal work.
