Transport Bureau (DSAT) Director Kelvin Lam Hin San pledged yesterday that the government will finalise the design of a flyover connecting the peninsula’s Areia Preta district and the land reclamation area known as Zone A – which lies off the north-eastern coast of the peninsula – and then invite bids for its construction as soon as possible.

Lam made the remarks while speaking to reporters after a regular closed-door meeting of the Traffic Consultative Council at his bureau. One of the items on the agenda was that the bureau presented two design proposals about the project to the government-appointed council.

Currently, Zone A is connected to the peninsula only through one link, at the busy Oriental Pearl roundabout (Rotunda da Amizade) on the peninsula’s north-eastern coast. Vehicles travelling to and from the man-made island where Macau and Zhuhai’s border checkpoints of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge (HZMB) are located – which is east of the still-not-developed Zone A – have to use this only link.
