Hotel guests rise 9.6 pct to 13 million last year

Macau’s hospitality industry recorded 13.15 million guests last year, up 9.6 percent year on year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.

According to a DSEC statement, mainlanders accounted for nearly two thirds (65.65 percent) of all hotel guests in 2017.

Hongkongers, South Koreans and Taiwanese accounted for the sector’s second, third and fourth largest guest segments, at 1.6 million, 501,000 and 493,000 respectively. While the numbers of guests from the mainland, South Korea and Taiwan rose 13.5 percent, 64.7 percent and 3.5 percent respectively, the number of Hong Kong guests fell 9.6 percent year on year.
