Just like there are Christmas markets for Christmas, there are Chinese New Year Markets for the Chinese New Year. As it is the Year of the Dog this time, canine-themed ornaments and decorations are everywhere.
In Macau, there are two government-organised Chinese New Year (CNY) markets, one in Praça do Tap Seac and the other in Iao Hon Garden.
According to the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), the Praça do Tap Seac market has 24 stalls selling festive gifts and decorations, six selling festive flowers, and four snack bars. In Iao Hon Garden, the market is slightly smaller with just 10 stalls in total.
Both markets began operating yesterday, where stall owners got busy setting up their booths and getting their products delivered to the markets so that they could start business as soon as possible to sell as much as they could before the markets wrap up on Thursday, Chinese New Year’s Eve.
