The police yesterday solved the high-profile case in which a woman poured paraffin outside the Old Courthouse in Nam Van on Monday. The woman was taken to the Health Bureau’s psychiatric centre in Taipa for treatment after police officers found her in her family home yesterday, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday.
The statement identified the woman as a 32-year-old unemployed local resident surnamed Chu.
At around 4 p.m. on Monday, a passer-by saw a woman – Chu – pouring paraffin on the steps of the Old Courthouse and called the police. The woman had vanished when police officers arrived. Firefighters found that there was also paraffin on the pavement at the base of the Old Courthouse in Avenida da Praia Grande, and a sheet of A4 paper soaked in the inflammable liquid partly burnt.
