Guest speakers and members of the audience at yesterday’s Macau Forum slammed the government for insisting that the city’s 100 new common taxis must be electric vehicles even though officials had admitted they could not ensure that there will be enough charging facilities for e-cabs and other necessary conditions in place for electric taxis to operate.

The weekly open-air debate is hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday.

The Transport Bureau (DSAT) announced early this month that the owners of 100 new common taxi licences will have to use electric vehicles (EVs) for their cabs.
