Macau has become a family tourism destination – and that appears to be a turn-off for high-rolling gamblers during holidays when the city is swamped by visiting families from the mainland, Hong Kong and elsewhere, analysts said yesterday.

Macau’s gaming revenue growth rose 5.7 percent to 24.3 billion patacas in February, the slowest pace since January 2017, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) said yesterday. That was weaker than the median estimate for a 9 percent increase in a Bloomberg survey.

Reuters said analysts had expected 7 to 12 percent growth. The newswire pointed out that even though revenue growth slowed down in February, it was still the 19th month of consecutive gains.
