A woman from the mainland was arrested on Tuesday for keeping HK$54,000 in cash that fell out of a passer-by’s pocket, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference in Zape yesterday.
According to the Cheong, the suspect is a 58-year-old woman from the mainland surnamed Xie, who works as a cleaner in Macau.
Cheong said that the victim, a local male shop owner, whose surname was not revealed, received a cash payment of HK$54,000 on Saturday, and he put all the cash into his trouser pocket. While he was walking outside the Barrier Gate checkpoint, the stack of banknotes accidentally fell out of his pocket. The victim later realised the loss and rushed back to the area, but couldn’t find any of his money.
