The Transport Bureau (DSAT) stressed yesterday that the owners of 100 new common taxi licences will need to install their own charging facilities for their electric taxis and that the charging stations in the city’s public car parks are to be auxiliary facilities for them.

Chan Io Fai, who heads the bureau’s Vehicles Division, made the remarks during a session yesterday in which the bureau’s officials briefed potential bidders for the 100 licences on the ongoing bidding process.

The bureau said in a statement on Monday that it will extend the period for submitting bids for 100 new common taxi licences – the owners of which are required to buy electric vehicles (EVs) – until March 26, from the initial deadline today. The bureau said the decision was to give potential bidders more time to prepare and collect information concerning the specifications of e-taxis.
