A local tutor stamped bogus postmarks on letters containing promotional leaflets about his private tuition business before putting them into letter boxes of residential buildings late last year, as he wanted to make his advertising campaign more effective, Judiciary Police (PJ) Chan Wun Man said during a special press conference on Friday.

The suspect paid 70 yuan via the Internet to ask someone on the mainland to create the forged postmarks. The suspect fraud was discovered by the Post and Telecommunications Bureau (CTT) last month.

The bureau runs Macau’s postal service and oversees the city’s telecommunications services run by private telecom operators.
