The Macau Customs Service said in a statement yesterday that its officers have busted an illegal immigration case involving a people smuggler and three of her clients.

In the early hours of Saturday morning, officers of the Customs Service patrolling the city’s coastal areas spotted a suspicious motorised sampan near Sai Van Bridge. The Customs Service launch set off in pursuit of the boat.

The statement said that the launch managed to intercept the sampan near a land reclamation area known as Zone E1, which lies off the northern coast of Taipa between Friendship Bridge and Pac On Ferry Terminal. They caught two male and two females onboard the sampan.

This undated handout photo provided by the Macau Customs Service yesterday shows the motorised sampan used by the female “snakehead”.
