Gaming operator Melco Resorts & Entertainment Chairman and CEO Lawrence HoYau Lung said yesterday that it “doesn’t make that much sense” to issue more gaming concessions as the central government wants growth in diversification and non-gaming entertainment in Macau.
He made the remarks in response to media questions about his opinion on what the government should do when the city’s three concessions and three sub-concessions expire between 2020 and 2022. There has been no word yet from the government whether it will simply extend the concessions and sub-concessions or open a fresh round of bidding.
Ho made the remarks while speaking to reporters after attending his enterprise’s Whole Person Development Event where a graduation ceremony was held for its 100 staff who completed various academic programmes, such as a “Back to School” course, sponsored by the company. Among them, 15 are local employees who graduated from its in-house bachelor’s degree programme in partnership with Edinburgh Napier University.
