The new types of tertiary degree programmes proposed in a government-drafted bill, such as a master’s-PhD programme and a taught master’s programme, will be able to address Macau’s need to “nurture talents”, City University of Macau (CityU) Rector Zhang Shuguang told reporters yesterday.
Zhang, a political scientist holding a PhD in history of international relations from Ohio University, made the remarks on the sidelines of the university’s 35th anniversary celebration and it’s Honorary Degree Conferment Ceremony on the CityU campus in Taipa yesterday.
Apart from the two kinds of courses, the bill also proposes that local tertiary education institutions be given the right to provide taught degree programmes at doctoral level and two-year associate certificate courses.
