Inflation rate leaps 3.12 pct

Macau’s inflation rate jumped 3.12 percent last month, the largest year-on-year growth since March 2016, as the Chinese New Year (CNY) fell in February this year but in January last year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.

According to a DSEC statement, the steep increase was attributable to higher prices for eating out and CNY package tours, as well as rising housing rents, parking meter rates and women’s clothing.

The composite consumer price index (CPI) last month increased 0.93 percent month-to-month.
