The government should encourage citizens to discuss and reach a consensus on which position to take on the wetlands outside the Taipa-Houses Museum – whether they should be a nature reserve or act as a hub for public education on bird habitats – before making a decision whether it will go ahead with a boardwalk project alongside the wetlands, current affairs commentator Ron Lam U Tou said yesterday.
Lam, who holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, made the remarks in a phone interview with The Macau Post Daily yesterday.
The Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) announced during a press conference last month that it plans to build a wooden boardwalk along the edge of the protected wetlands which are a habitat for water birds, with the aim of allowing visitors to watch the birds and get more closely involved with the wetlands.
