Speaking during yesterday’s Macau Forum open-air debate, grassroots legislator Antonio Ng Kuok Cheong insisted that any undeveloped land plots must be repossessed upon the expiration of their 25-year provisional concessions as stipulated by the Land Law, adding it was “completely unnecessary” to interpret the law by passing a bill on the matter.

Over 50 audience members attended the forum, where Ng, a board member of the New Macau Association (NMA), was a guest speaker. The forum is a public debate programme hosted by government-owned broadcaster TDM in Areia Preta Park every Sunday. Usually, the forum’s audience comprises just one or two dozen audience members.

Under the Land Law, such plots are bound to be repossessed regardless of whether the leaseholders can be held responsible for the land’s non-development during the 25-year period.
