The Legislative Assembly (AL) yesterday passed the outline of a government-initiated bill on a vehicle tax rebate scheme for vehicle owners affected by Super Typhoon Hato last year.

Secretary for Economy and Finance Lionel Leong Vai Tac introduced the outline of the bill on tax benefits concerning the purchase of vehicles for Hato-hit vehicle owners, during a plenary session in the legislature’s hemicycle yesterday.

The tax rebate scheme will benefit vehicle owners affected by the disaster if they buy a new one to replace a vehicle damaged by the typhoon, such as by flooding or falling objects, according to Leong. Owners of Hato-damaged cars need to buy a new car to be able to benefit from the tax rebate. Owners whose scooters or motorcycles were damaged by the typhoon need to buy a new scooter or motorcycle in order to benefit from the scheme.
