A domestic helper has been arrested for injuring a two-year-old girl, a Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesperson said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect is a 28-year-old Myanmese woman surnamed Van, the spokesperson said, adding that the domestic helper was hired to look after the toddler in January, as the victim’s parents are both working. The victim’s mother, who works as a saleswoman in a shopping centre, sometimes does not finish work until after midnight.
According to the spokesperson, the parents had not spotted anything unusual until the early morning of April 27, when Van told the mother that the girl had fallen and hit her head while playing. Shocked, the mother took the girl to a health centre for a medical examination. The girl’s wound was found to be suspicious so she was transferred to the public Conde de Sao Januario Hospital Centre for further examination.
