The Judiciary Police (PJ) arrested three mainlanders on Wednesday for operating three fake base stations in a flat in the International Centre in Zape, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Choi Ian Fai said during a special press conference yesterday at the Judiciary Police Headquarters in Zape.

Choi identified two male suspects from Fujian province both surnamed Shi, a father-and-son “team”, aged 52 and 23 respectively, and a 30-year-old woman surnamed Zhang from Hunan province.

A fake base station consists of telecom equipment which sends out a signal, disconnecting mobile phone users in an area from their legitimate base stations who then receive messages from the bogus one instead.
